Marekerk, Leiden

The Leiden Chamber Choir loves musical adventures. This time we took a trip to a number of different countries, from which, moreover, choir members come from: The Netherlands, England, Spain, Latvia and Turkey. The program included mostly lesser-known works, including choral arrangements of old folk tunes, as well as modern compositions and a few old madrigals. The music evoked very different atmospheres. Tranquil and subdued, joyful and exuberant, exotic and special - it all came across, as it does on a journey. The Marekerk - one of the most beautiful churches in Leiden - provided a beautiful setting for this special concert.

The program was as follows:

Netherlands
Pierre de la Rue: Myn Hert Altyt Heeft Verlanghen
Cornelis Thymanszoon Padbrué: The Minne-Net
Orlandus Lassus: Io Ti Voria

England
Gustav Holst: Six Choral Folksongs

Spain
Rodolfo Halffter: Tres Epitafios
Beatriz Corona: Arrorró
Javier Busto: Ametsetan

Latvia
Pēteris Vasks: Klusās Dziesmas
Pēteris Plakidis: Fatamorgana

Turkey
Ulvi Cemal Erkin: Feraye
Erdal Tuğcular: Yol Havası
Hasan Uçarsu: Güzelleme
