Every end is a new beginning. In Infinity the Leiden Chamber Choir sings of the journey of life, in
wonderful music by mostly contemporary composers. Birth, life, death
and what may come after, are often compared in art to awakening, the day
spend, unwind and fall asleep. This program follows this structure. We face
up at dawn to watch the northern lights with Ola Gjeilo. Eric Whitacre opens our
eyes. We experience love with Morten Lauridsen and enjoy Musicks Empire, the empire
of the music. The spatial composition Cantilene of our previous conductor, Jeroen
Spitteler, is an acoustic representation of the day's impressions. How everything at the end
of the day comes to rest, we sing in a beautiful song written by Anneke Wittop Koning in 2018
composed especially for the Leiden Chamber Choir: The sun is couched. Other
highlights of the program are related to eternal rest and eternal life,
voiced, among other things, in the impressive choral works Agnus Dei Of Samuel Barber and
Lux Aeterna by Edward Elgar. The title of this compelling program is taken from
Infinity by Norwegian composer Kim André Arnesen, who reminds humanity that in
the infinity of the universe yet we must seize our moment in the here and now, because we are
have only one chance. Will we choose light or darkness? Will we resurrect or
fall? Or is there always that new beginning after all?
